中國大腕馮小剛重金炮製的災難片《唐山大地震》，震破中國史上票房紀錄，累積票房突破五億元人民幣。製作費耗資二億，改編張翎小說《餘震》的《唐山大地震》，講述1976年唐山大地震之後對家庭遭遇的破壞和修復，是一個圍繞徐帆、張靜初和李晨飾演的三母子展開一段長達32年重拾親情的故事。這次集結了高成本大製作、IMAX巨幕上展現的壯觀場面、濃烈的家庭倫理劇情，讓觀眾感受失去至親的切膚之痛，從而重新珍惜親情。
1976年7月28日的凌晨3時42分，河北唐山市發生7.8級大地震。當時卡車司機方大強(《大掌櫃》張國強飾)為拯救他的龍鳳胎方登和方達而被瓦礫壓死，兒女則被同一塊樓板壓在兩邊，無論人們想救哪一個，都要放棄另一個，結果妻子元妮(《一聲嘆息》徐帆飾)選擇了從小體弱多病的弟弟方達(小演員張家駿飾)。方登(童星張子楓飾)原來在地震中劫後餘生，被軍人王德清夫婦(影帝陳道明、《滿城盡帶黃金甲》陳瑾飾)領養，從此方氏母女姐弟便天各一方。直到32年後的汶川大地震，長大後的方登(張靜初飾)和方達(《集結號》李晨飾)竟然在災場中再走到一起……
1976年唐山大地震，在短短23秒間把唐山夷為廢墟，逾65萬間民房倒塌或受損，超過24萬人死亡、16萬人重傷，破壞的威力卻比投擲日本廣島的原子彈強四百倍。為了重現這場驚世浩劫，馮小剛花費不菲邀請了歐美和韓國的技術顧問進行協助，將中國史上最慘烈的一次天災在片初三分鐘的地震場面呈現觀眾眼前。《唐山大地震》的重點卻並非電腦特效，馮小剛再以細膩的人物描述放小人物的命運，帶領觀眾重回生命力量的原點，其中馮導愛妻兼老拍播徐帆和張靜初一幕地震32年後的母女重逢，她們出色的演技感染觀衆，讓人感到母愛和親情的偉大。
