1969年，人類首次踏足月球，萬國博覽會也即將於翌年在大阪舉行。夏天，小學生賢知和一群同學在空地上建立了一個神秘基地，其中一個秘密遊戲就是在「預言之書」寫下邪惡組織、征服世界、人類滅亡計劃，以及阻止一切發生的正義夥伴等幻想。30年後，賢知放棄成為搖滾巨星的夢想，繼承家裡的的便利商店。此時，由「朋友」率領的神秘組織出現，並發生了連串詭異的事件。而事件與他們當年在「預言之書」寫下的一模一樣…
《20世紀少年》為浦澤直樹原作的科學冒險漫畫，於1999年至2006年連載，並獲得無數獎項。電影版以三部曲形式製作，製作費耗資60億，動員300位演員參與演出。導演為《自虐之詩》堤幸彥，唐澤壽明飾演男主角遠藤賢知、豐川悅司飾演阿區、常盤貴子飾演雪次，以及香川照之、黑木瞳、佐野史郎、佐佐木藏之介等超豪華陣容合演。
